Natalie Kubat

Tri Kappa sister Natalie Kubat talks about sex for a living.

As the director of development at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, Natalie raises money for research and collects erotic art and artifacts for the Kinsey Institute Library & Special Collections museum.

Natalie studied journalism at IU after her graduation from DeKalb High School in Auburn. She met her future husband, Mike, while working at Kilroy’s on Kirkwood Avenue.

“I worked as a shot girl,” Natalie laughs.

In other words, she peddled shots of liquor on the barroom floor.

Mike is from Lafayette, so the newlyweds moved there following their college graduation. Natalie worked at a small non-profit corporation.

But Bloomington kept tugging at their hearts.

“We were living in Lafayette, but we would come back to Bloomington for football games, tailgates. We just missed the feeling in Bloomington,” Natalie says.

“Mike said if I got a job at IU, we could move back.”

And so they raised their sons, Nicklas and Seeger, surrounded by cream and crimson instead of gold and black.

Natalie had considered volunteering her time with a philanthropic group, and, while several people, including Jaimie Schwartzman and Stacy Bruce, had mentioned Tri Kappa to her, it was Ann Huntoon who finally recruited her.

“Some people had mentioned Tri Kappa to me, but I thought 10 years was a long commitment,” Natalie says. “However, everyone told me that’s it’s so much fun, so I decided to give it a try.”

She’s glad she took the challenge, and she especially likes serving on the Scholarship and Blingo committees.

“I like helping the community, but there is a social aspect to Tri Kappa that I love,” Natalie says. “I’m helping the community, but I also gained a sisterhood.”
