Angie Martin Sisterhood Award

With a purpose, strong and true. Whatever our task may be, you can count on Tri Kappa to help lead the way to improve the lives of others and our communities.  From our humble beginnings to today, Tri Kappa is an organization where our members are committed to something bigger than themselves.

In April 2016, The Tri Kappa Alpha chapter established the Angie Martin Sisterhood Award to recognize a member who has made an impact in the chapter and exemplifies the true meaning of sisterhood. Named after and innaugurally presented to our own sister, Angie Martin, the recipient is asked to select a charitable organization for the chapter to donate in their honor.

2023 Beverly Martinez and The Middle Way House

Beverly joined Tri Kappa in 2016, and has served in various capacities throughout the organization. Through chairing the Grants Committee and Secret Sister Committee, as well as participating on the flower, cheese ball and grants/scholarship committees as a member, it’s no secret that Beverly has immersed herself in the Tri Kappa family.

The organization that Beverly picked this year is The Middle Way House, which focuses on providing crisis intervention services to people around Bloomington. Middle Way House provides resources and services to survivors and those impacted by domestic abuse, sexual violence and human trafficking.

2022 Kathy Strickler and The Wheeler Mission

In 2017, Kathy joined the Tri Kappa chapter in Bloomington and has loved getting involved in the organization, trying out various committee roles and tasks. She has spent hours making and rolling cheeseballs, helped sell and later distribute flower orders to hundreds of people, evaluated grant and scholarship applications, as well as served on the hospitality committee to help get chapter meetings set up and torn down each month.

Kathy selected The Wheeler Mission, a non-denominational, Christian, social services organization. Since 1893, this organization has provided imperative goods & services to those that are homeless or experiencing poverty and need in Central/Southern Central Indiana. Regardless of one’s race, color, secual orientation, creed, national origin or religion, all are welcome.

2021 Beth Theile and the Tri Kappa Alpha Chapter Endowment

It came as no surprise to many when Beth Theile was announced as a recipient of the Angie Martin Sisterhood Award. Beth was initiated in the Alpha chapter in 2006 and has lead the group in many ways: she served two terms on the Executive Board as Treasurer, developed and co-chaired Blingo, mentored our cheeseball efforts, and helped establish the an endowment fund with the Community Foundation of Bloomington. In addition to countless hours of planning and execution of events and programs, Beth is always one of the first sisters to volunteer, send a card, or deliver a meal to a friend. She is a servant-leader and we are proud to call her our sister! Beth selected the Tri Kappa endowment to receive funds this year, to help both our Chapter and the community benefit for years to come! Beth is pictured with her three daughters, all Tri Kappa legacies, and her husband Kevin.

2018 Mary Jane Hall and First Books of Monroe County

Mary Jane, recipient of the 2018 Angie Martin Award, was initiated into Tri Kappa in 2014 and has devoted herself to serving Tri Kappa at the local and state level. The past two years, Mary Jane has chaired the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, but has also served as a committee member for our popular cheeseball and flower fundraisers. In 2017, our chapter hosted the Province Convention & Officer Training (PCOT) for Tri Kappa, and Mary Jane co-planned the day’s events alongside current Alpha chapter member and now State Council Secretary, Stephanie Oyler.

Tri Kappa officers and Mary Jane presented Team First Book of Monroe County Co-Chair, Patty Callison, with a check for $1000. Mary Jane selected the non-profit organization to receive the funds that will provide books to low-income children in Monroe County. Mary

2016 Inaugural Award to Angie Martin and MCCSC Literacy Programs

Since being initiated to Tri Kappa in 1986, Angie has displayed huge involvement within the Alpha chapter. She held numerous officer positions, from Responding Secretary to Vice President to President. She co-chaired and chaired various committees within the organization, planned events and still maintains the Historian position of our chapter and state. In this role, she oversees the memorabilia and artifacts of our chapter since its installation in 1901. At the state level, Angie served on various committees and leadership roles, such as Mental Health, Chapter & Charters, Province officer and more. Currently she serves on the committee that is planning our 125th anniversary celebration.

Angie selected MCCSC Literacy Programs as the recipient of this funding, which focuses on funding effective and immersive programs that promote literacy, comprehension and the skills necessary to be life-long learners.
