Terri Miller

“I like being around like-minded people who want to do good for the community,” Terri Van Doel Miller says. “That’s probably one of my favorite things about Tri Kappa.”

Terri and Alpha chapter member Stacy Bruce were volunteers for the Arlington Elementary School PTO for several years when Stacy brought up Tri Kappa.

“We ran the PTO book fair for several years,” Terri says. “We also were officers together. Stacy talked about Tri Kappa, how fun it is to make cheeseballs and different things.

“She asked me if I would be interested in joining, and I quickly said ‘Yes!’ ”

She has been a member since 2018.

Terri was born in Merrillville. She was a Navy brat, so the Van Doels moved around a lot while she was growing up. They finally landed back in Indiana, where Terri was graduated from Avon High School in 1996.

She attended IUPUI and then Ivy Tech before graduating from Indiana Wesleyan with a degree in criminal justice. Her MBA from Indiana Wesleyan is what set her on her career path.

She now works for Cook Medical as a project manager in ethics and compliance. Before that, she served as compliance manager for One America for 15 years. In her spare time, she is pursuing a master’s degree in jurisprudence, with a concentration in pharmaceutical and medical devices.

She has one son, Chase, and a stepdaughter, Savannah, who are the same age. She and her partner, Tom Powell, have been friends since they were 19 years old.

Terri learned she has rheumatoid arthritis in her late 30s. Following her diagnosis, she became active in the Indiana Arthritis Foundation. Each year, the group hosts a fundraising “Jingle Bell Run.” Terri was named the run’s honoree in 2017, and her Tri Kappa sisters dedicated a Small Sacrifice in her honor to the fundraiser.

That’s a big reason why Terri loves Tri Kappa, it’s helped her favorite organization as well as many, many more.

“I really like the fundraising aspect of Tri Kappa and what we do for the community,” Terri says.
