Sam Robinson

Samantha Robinson understands the benefits of sisterhood and philanthropy that come with joining a local fraternal organization.

Born in Terre Haute, Sam attended Indiana State University and got her first taste of sisterhood when she was initiated into the Alpha Omicron Pi chapter there. She also got her toe wet in student life.

“When I was in AOPi, I was the social chair, house director, VP administration and on Panhellenic,” Sam says.

Although she had a legal studies undergraduate degree, she sought her master’s in student affairs and higher education at ISU. She then turned her college experience and education into a career guiding students in fraternities and sororities.

Sam came to Bloomington in July of 2022 to be the senior assistant director of Student Standards and Accountability for the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life. She’s now the associate director of Harm and Reduction Education.

Her foray into the Alpha chapter of Tri Kappa began with a visit from active member Judy Downey, who works with Sam at IU.

“Judy Downey literally came into my office one day and told me she had the perfect opportunity for me,” Sam says. “She told me she knew I wanted to get more involved in the Bloomington community and find a way to give back.

“She handed me a form, told me to fill it out, and that’s pretty much how I became a Tri Kappa member!”

Sam really likes working on the Community Service Committee. There she can help decide what the Small Sacrifices will be for the year. Delivering the proceeds to deserving organizations in Monroe County helps her see the benefits of all the fundraising the Alpha chapter does. In addition, she has grown very close to committee member Tisa Bowden, an added benefit of the Tri Kappa sisterhood.

“Tri Kappa gives people an opportunity to really kind of collectively do something to benefit our community,” Sam says. “We do have to go to meetings, and we pay in time, energy and effort, but that leads to all the good work we do.”
