Michelle Stuckey
Local gal Michelle Teague Stuckey has lived in Monroe County all her life. However, it wasn’t until 2022 that Amanda Burnham and Chel Domer talked her into joining the Tri Kappa sisterhood.
“I knew a little bit about Tri Kappa through Chel and Amanda, as they had talked about the social aspect, which was very appealing to me,” Michelle says. “I knew we did fundraisers, but it wasn’t until I joined that I understood the full scope of what we give to the community.
“After I learned about our grants, I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, this is for me!’ ”
While Michelle was born in Bloomington, she and her brother, Scott, grew up in Ellettsville, attending Edgewood High School.
Her path to a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University was a little circuitous.
“I knew college seemed like a good plan,” Michelle laughs. “I got into IU, but then I decided it would be a grand idea to get married instead.”
By 23, she was on her own again, two young daughters in tow. That’s when she decided to hit the books.
“It took me seven years to get through college, raising two kids and working full time at the IU Foundation,” Michelle says.
She studied management at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. However, it was her minor in theater that kept her sane during those busy years.
Her first job out of college was at IU’s School of Journalism, where she oversaw alumni relations and events. She transferred over to the School of Education, where she was also in alumni relations, then became the director of the Greater Ellettsville Chamber of Commerce. She ended her working career at Edward Jones.
In her “retirement,” she babysits for her grandchildren and sometimes the kids of friends who are in a pinch for childcare.
Michelle met her husband, Jeff, through a matchmaking endeavor by his secretary at the Foundation.
“She took him around to meet everyone when he first started work, but she had hot designs on getting the two of us together,” Michelle says. “I guess she succeeded!”
The Stuckeys have a yours, mine and ours situation: in addition to her two daughters, Jeff has two sons and they share a son together. Their family has now extended to seven grandchildren.
Michelle says she really enjoys all aspects of being a member of the Alpha chapter.
“I have really enjoyed Blingo; I really love seeing the different organizations that we help beyond our grants (Small Sacrifices). Some of these non-profits I didn’t even know existed until we helped them out,” Michelle says.
“We are really out there impacting Bloomington in a way that isn’t necessarily obvious to people. We are truly dynamic and crazily fun women who make a real impact on this community, from both financial and service standpoints. This is my place to be -- there is no other organization like it around here.”
