Kati Hulls
While it’s sometimes hard for her to be outgoing, Kati Hulls says she likes making new friends through Tri Kappa.
“Ever since I was little, I was very shy,” says Kati, who has Turner syndrome. “It was hard for me to meet friends due to my insecurities because of Turner’s. Now I am able to open up a little bit more. Sometimes it’s hard to go to a meeting, but once I’m sitting at a table with other women, it’s easier.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, Turner syndrome results when an X chromosome is missing or partially missing. The disease affects only females and can cause medical and developmental problems in those afflicted.
The survival rate for Turner’s is very low, so Kati is Tri Kappa’s own medical miracle.
The lifelong Btown resident was graduated from Bloomington South in 2005. She worked for years at a dermatology office and now is employed by the law firm Bunger and Robertson.
She still has a lot of doctors’ appointments each year, but in her spare time, she volunteers with the Chrysalis and Emmaus flights/walks through the Hoosier Hills Chrysalis community.
“Our team works with 40 girls from all over Indiana, twice a year,” Kati says.
In Tri Kappa, Kati enjoys selling blooms for the Flowers Committee and being a member of the Grants Committee. She also provides for the Sweet Treats Committee.
“I’m not a baker,” Kati laughs, “But that was the only other committee I could sign up for. If I have time, I’ll bake something for the meetings. But a lot of the time, I’ll just grab something at the store!”
Kati and her dog, Hooper, a “big old teddy bear” who’s really a golden retriever, live on the southside of Bloomington.
When Megan Parmenter started talking to Kati in 2016 about joining the Alpha chapter, Kati thought the sisterhood sounded wonderful.
“I wanted to meet new people,” Kati says. “After Megan told me about all the stuff we do, I thought it would be really fun to join.”
