Ann Eskew
Ann Brewster Eskew moved to Bloomington from the Indianapolis area in 2017 to become director of Women and Children’s Services at Bloomington Hospital. Her husband, Phil, retired and joined her a year later.
Active all her life in the nursing field and with philanthropic endeavors, she knew she wanted to continue serving the community following her own 2020 retirement.
A conversation with Nancy Gettinger at a Rotary event brought her to Tri Kappa.
Ann was initiated into an Indianapolis chapter of the sorority following her high school graduation. She went to some meetings during college but never became an active member. After hearing about all the good things the Bloomington chapter has to offer, Ann decided to affiliate.
“What impresses me about Tri Kappa is the philanthropy,” Ann says. “With the scholarships and the grants, our numbers are incredible. Everyone’s enthusiasm is wonderful, and getting involved with the different fundraisers has been a great way to meet people.”
After her graduation from Arlington High School in Indianapolis, Ann attended Purdue University for a year where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. She then transferred to IUPUI to study nursing at an accredited program.
Ann started her career at Riley Children’s Hospital as a student nurse and took a position following graduation working in ED and PICU. After attaining her master’s degree in nursing and a pediatric nurse-practitioner certification, she took a position at St. Vincent Hospital where she worked for 26 years.
Her next position took her to St. Vincent Pediatric Rehab Hospital for five years. There she cared for and trained families with newborns battling ailments as varied as spinal cord injuries, vent dependency, seizure disorders, cancer and end-of-life needs.
“That was a dynamite job, probably the one I loved most during my career,” Ann says.
She finished her career in Bloomington just prior to the Covid pandemic and lockdown.
Ann has remained an active member of her Indianapolis-area St. Luke’s Methodist Church and is also involved in PEO and Rotary International. However, she admits she really enjoys the sisterhood Tri Kappa offers her. She plans to put a friend’s name up for membership next year.
“My friend asked me what I spend my time doing in Bloomington, and I told her about Tri Kappa,” Ann says. “I explained to her what Tri Kappa is, told her about our fundraisers and projects. I told her what a fun group of ladies we are, that we get together once a month or more, have a drink from the bar, have a nice dinner, enjoy each other’s company and help the Bloomington community.
“Tri Kappa is a fun group.”
