Amy Denney

“I really love our Tri Kappa meetings,” says Amy Denney. “It’s a guarantee you’re going to have a girls’ night out once a month!”

A member since 2010, Amy also credits her Alpha chapter sisters with providing her unfailing moral support.

“I have found a little group of prayer warriors who are so supportive of me (while my dad has been sick),” Amy says. “I am forever grateful.”

Amy grew up in Solsberry in eastern Greene County. Her parents still live there. Amy has shared the Solsberry General Store and nearby aqueduct with her Tri Kappa sisters on two occasions. It’s a nice Sisterhood Social away from the hustle and bustle of busy Bloomington.

After her graduation from Eastern Greene High School, Amy got her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in teaching from Indiana University. She can teach elementary school, special education, and middle school social studies and language arts.

She has been teaching U.S. history at Owen Valley Middle School for most of her career.

“I love teaching history,” Amy says. “It’s our story. It’s my preservation and conservation effort.

“If kids don’t know our story, what good are they as citizens?”

Amy and her husband, Steve, have one son, Parker. They live on the west side of Bloomington near the Monroe County Airport.

The Scholarship and Flower committees as well as the “Dirty Santa” Sisterhood Social are Amy’s favorite Tri Kappa activities. She also enjoys serving on the Sweet Treats Committee.

“I enjoy baking, and Sweet Treats gives me another opportunity to serve,” Amy says.

Amy was the Alpha chapter’s recording secretary for a two-year term and is a member of the Solsberry Christian Church.
